Improving Balance Through the Art of Tai Chi

Don’t live in fear of falling.

Improve your balance and build confidence in our Tai Chi for Balance class. Our specially adapted Tai Chi movements target the functional deficits that can occur as we age which often lead to an increased risk of falling. Through slow, deliberate weight shifting and movement, you will build lower body strength, increase your range of motion, and improve your reflexes. An emphasis on body awareness will strengthen your mind-body connection and help you to move more purposefully, improving your ability to walk and preventing falls. As an added benefit, the meditative quality of Tai Chi will help to reduce stress and the continuous motion will elevate your heart rate improving overall heart health.

Please note that this class is not a traditional Tai Chi class; elements of Tai Chi have been adapted to focus on balance and fall prevention. Anyone who feels unsteady, has increased anxiety about falling, or is at risk of falling can participate in this class. The Tai Chi for Balance class is offered with our specialty fitness programs and is included as part of the Rock Steady Boxing and Move Beyond Cancer program memberships. A Move Membership is also available, and includes access to Pedal Pushers and Tai Chi for Balance.
